The ApunKaChoice movie review of Love Breakups Zindagi

If anything, Bollywood filmwalas are good at recycling old stuff. From Hollywood blockbusters to
Korean thrillers, films have been rehashed, ripped off and re-garbed in Bollywoodishness with
alarming alacrity. Though debutant director Sahil Sangha doesn’t take the same route, he still fails
to provide anything new, unseen or fresh in his movie Love Breakups Zindagi. He trots out an
utterly predictable and overlong candyfloss story about love and its complications. In short, Love
Breakups Zindagi breaks up no stereotypes. It bears a déjà vu feel of having seen it all somewhere
before in some not-too-obscure Hindi flick.
Jai (Zayed Khan) is in a relationship with a domineering, health-freak girl (Pallavi Sharda). Naina
(Dia Mirza) is hooked up with a man (Vaibhav Talwar) who’s too busy to spare time for her.
Obviously both the relationships are destined to go down the plughole.
Jai’s friend Govind (Cyrus Sahukar) has been through two divorces and, given half a chance, is
ready to fall in love and marry for the third time. The girl or rather the woman who catches his
fancy is Sheela (Tisca Chopra) who isn’t exactly thrilled by the idea of marriage.
The only couple that seems made for each other is Arjun (Satyadeep Mishra) and Gayatri (Auritra
Ghosh). And there’s also Naina’s roommate (Umang Jain) who’s got a string of breakups to lick ice-
creams on.
The story revolves around this assorted bunch of characters and primarily on the love story
brewing between Jai and Naina. But there’s hardly any development in the plot in the second half.
The story keeps swirling in circles even though one can predict the climax in the first fifteen
minutes of the movie. And that’s a bummer.
Save for one or two, there aren’t many romantic moments to leave you with paced heartbeats.
Dia Mirza does try to strike chemistry with Zayed Khan but the latter is cramped by his limited
range of expressions. Cyrus Sahukar tries to chip in some laughs but isn’t funny. On the sidelines,
Umang Jain and Tisca Chopra are creditable.
A special word for the music composed by Salim-Suleiman. The songs have lilting melodies that
stay with you long after the film is over. Alas, the same can’t be said of the movie. Sahil Sangha
starts the proceedings on a promising note but doesn’t know when to wind up things. The movie
stretches on for a good 2 hours 40 minutes through painfully stretches sequences that could
well have been axed out on the editing table.
